Tim talks about:
Serious gaming (he has a great passion for it) and its role in the medical world, care and education.
Tim Laning is co-founder, co-owner and CEO of Grendel Games, a serious game development company based in the Frisian city of Leeuwarden, the Netherlands. He was also the driving force behind the game development and design course at the NHL University for Professional Education, the G-Ameland Festival, the Next-Gen Art Event and the initial ideas for Gameship, a facility for research and development of video game technology.
His company focuses on applying the inherent entertainment quality of video games to achieve sustainable change within and for society, in the domains health care, water & electricity, education and cultural heritage. The emphasis of the company lies in the medical field. To Tim, cross-pollination is the key to innovation, and the least likely combinations of industries sometimes yield the best results.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxFryslân, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxFryslân event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized. This independent TEDx event is operated under license from TED.
